Lexi Zanovitch moved on to the State Championship after qualifying at the Fig Garden Golf Course. The State Championship was held in Chino Hills on the 15th and 16th of November. As an individual Lexi had to finish in the top 12 to qualify. She ended up placing 10th and was one of 3 from the valley to move on to the state championships.

Zanovitch played a great game in Chino Hills placing in the top 24 in the state. Zanovitch was the only golfer from Reedley Col- lege to qualify for the championship. "It was really different from last year probably because of the location and how far away it was from home," Zanovitch said about the experience at the State championship this year. “It was mostly sunny and warm and a lot of people weren't ready for that cause were usually use to cold weather for this time of year," Zanovitch continued. The competition was tough but she was able to pull off a performance that would make any college proud.

It was that time again, the annual Reedley College versus Fresno City College football game; the Battle for the Pump. Starting the game off on November 13th, Fresno City had the pump and in the end they got to walk away with it once again. The half-time show was put on by the Associated Student Bodies for both colleges complete with a balloon-pop relay contest and a mascot dance-off. Reedley’s ASB had the coveted plaque but in the end had to hand it over.

Much to Reedley’s fans’ disagreement, Sam the Ram was the honored best dancer. In the sec- ond half the score only got further away from Reedley with the final score being 48-13. The Tigers did, however, land six players on the All-Valley Conference Team; Quarterback Jeff Kidd (pictured above), wide receivers Avery Collins and Alphonse Coleman, defensive lineman Eric Sykes, defensive end Thomas Marshall, and defensive back Jovanny Carvajal.

The Lady Tigers Basket- ball players were pumped and ready to start off the season with their first home game on November 20 against Bakers- field. According to Head Coach Dan Kilbert, “The team looks skilled and ready to play. There is no one team to be this season. The team is ready to be tough and give every effort every night." The lady Tigers are a young team this year, with one returning player and ten freshmen filling out the roster.

While the Lady Tigers have been preparing to dominate the court, they have also been actively involved in their community. On October 15, the team purchased and donated sixty rubber basketballs to the patients at Children’s Hospital Central California. They also spent some time with the little patients, playing games such as Monopoly and Wii’s Band Hero. On October 29, the Lady Tigers donated 100 books to students at Reedley's Jefferson Elementary School. The team purchased "Curious George" books for the school's first grade students. Also involved in the event were teammates from the Reedley College Men's Basketball team Head Men’s Basketball Coach Brian Fon- seca, and mascot Clyde the Tiger. Members of both teams went into the library and read to all 72 first grade students. The team members added a geography lesson by showing the students where they were from on a globe. The players also autographed the “Curious George” books for the students. The Lady Tigers cite this collaboration with the Men’s team as a memorable experience.

Last season’s player Sammie Greene received an athletic scholarship to play at Greensboro College, a four year school in North Carolina. The athletic scholarship Greene received covered half of her tuition. Other players that were recognized and received Academic money were Jodee Mc Millan for Sonoma State University and Monique Read and Blair Scott for LeMoyne-Owen College.

The November 20 matchup with Bakersfield will be in the Reedley Col- lege gym at 5pm.

“We are really excited for this week’s game,” said Brian Fonseca Reedley College Men’s Basketball Coach. The Tigers kick-off their first game at home against San Diego Meza on November 11. “The first game is important,” added Fonseca.

Coach Fonseca was pleased with the way the Tigers played at The American Scrim- mage, which took place in Sacramento on Oc- tober 30. It was a per- fect time for the Tigers to show their strength. “We don’t have major weaknesses; there’s quickness, good sizes (which range between 5’10”- 6’8”), and good ball shooting. So we have a good chance of [this year’s team] going well,” said Fonseca. The team to beat this year, according to Fon- seca, is Fresno City and College of the Sequoias in the Central Valley Conference League.

The team should play as a cohesive unit this season with five returning players: Darryl Stevenson, Kevin Young, Vince York, Chris Barnes-Williams, and Vinny Ruiz. The Tigers should also have a good following, with nine players coming from Fresno, Dinuba, Tulare, Kerman, and Hanford. New to the Tiger team is transfer student Nile Finney of Hawaii Pacific University, where he was named the team’s most valuable player and earned a place on the Kiwanis All- Tournament team.

The Men’s Basketball team has also been busy off court. The team was involved in Reedley’s Taste of Town and helped out at the Kiwanis Club’s breakfast. They also collaborated with the Reedley College Women’s Basketball team’s donation of “Curious George” books to the first grade students at Reedley’s Jefferson Elementary. Coach Fonseca said that he is trying to get student athletes involved with the community. “We are excited for this week. We want to see as many people as we can,” said Fonseca about the first home game, which kicks off Thursday November 11 at 7pm.

Reedley College’s first game of the season brought strong results against Foothill College. The Tigers scored an impressive 21 points falling just short of the Owls score of 23. The Tigers tried to take the game into overtime but failed on a two-point conversion. According to Head Coach Randy Whited, the Tiger team has a lot of new faces with the majority of the players being freshman.
The Tigers then faced San Mateo on September 18, which is ranked number three in the Nation. San Mateo opened its season with a win against the Fresno City Rams. The Tiger season ended last year when they lost the Nor Cal Championship game to San Mateo. The Tigers were unable to stop the Bulldogs running game as they topped the Tigers 51-10. The Tigers defense was no match for the Owls offense, which had a 30-3 lead going into half.
The second half didn’t start off well either with an opening kickoff return that was run back for a touchdown. Reedley did receive support from the bench from kicker Ivan Torres who is in for the injured Curtis O’Neill and quarterback Taylor Genseur who came into the game in the fourth quarter. The Tigers did accumulate 281 yards of total offense. Some bright spots in the game; Reedley defensive back, Preston Argenbright intercepted a pass to halt a scoring drive by San Mateo.
The Tigers then faced Cabrillo College on September 25th who was also 0-2 for the season. The Tigers came back from a deficit to take a 25-20 lead with 44 seconds left in the game. The Tigers who were down 26-25 were not able to make a 50 yard field goal for the win.
In the last game against Cabrillo the Tigers offense had more first downs and total yards than their opponent. They also won the time of possession category by nearly 7 minutes.
It is too early in the season to predict the Tigers season record.    According to Coach Whited, “we will focus on improving our fundamentals. He added that there is no one particular team to beat, “All ten games are just as important as the others.”
The Tigers have a new offensive coordinator this year with the addition of Coach Scott Stark.  “He was successful with the offensive team at Fresno City,” added Whited.  As the Tigers get deeper into the season, Stark’s new dimensions to the offensive team have really shown.
The Tigers got their first taste of victory on October 2 when they faced the West Hills Falcons and won 33-7.  West Hills had 6 first downs while the Tigers had 29. The Tigers were on a prowl and ran 86 plays to 47 for West Hills. The Reedley Tigers were eight of fifteen in third down conversions. The Falcons were only able to convert one in eleven chances.
The spotlight of the night goes to freshman running back Nigel Simmons who contributed to another impressive game. Simmons scored three touchdowns and rushed for 84 yards. Josh Andrews also rushed for 65 yards on 21 carries.
The Tigers ended nonleague play with a win against Hartnell on October 9.  Reedley College topped Hartnell 32-14.
The Tigers begin league play on October 16 against Sierra College.

The Lady Tigers Golf team has started where it left off last year.  The Tigers are currently in third place which is where they finished in last year’s inaugural season. The Tigers are six games into the season. “The strengths of our team are team spirit and camaraderie,” says Coach Sharon Kerr.
Zanovich will be leading the Lady Tigers who have suffered a minor blow to their line up. Zanovich did amazingly well down the stretch earning a berth to the state finals. She finished tied for 10th overall.
This year there are three returning players, two of which are red shirting this year. The two returning players are Galisa Zamarripa and Joeanna Lopez. There are also four new members to watch for this season. According to Coach Kerr, Lexi Zanovich  is the number one player. Audrie Bustos is the number two player who is improving in each tournament. Paige Reese is a new player this season and according to Coach Kerr, “She is the most improved player who has improved her scoring each tournament.”
The Lady Tigers next game is at Kings River Country Club in Kingsburg on October 26 at 12pm.
